Tuggeranong Bulldogs Australian Football Club

To understand the Tuggeranong Bulldogs history we need to go back to 1968 when the South Woden Football Club was formed under the supervision of the Eastlake Football Club and competed in the Monaro Australian Football League.

On 1 January 1976, the club joined the ACTAFL with a third grade side and changed their name to Sutherland Bulldogs. The Club was zoned to the areas of Farrer, Mawson, Torrens, Pearce, Kambah and Wanniassa.

Sutherland officially opened a licenced premises in Wanniassa on 25 November 1978 becoming the first licenced club for any sport in the Tuggeranong.

In 1983, Sutherland amalgamated with the Tuggeranong Football Club. The re-zoning under the ACT Australian Football League drove the change. The two junior administrations continued to operate as separate entities, with Sutherland juniors based east of Erindale Drive in the suburbs of Monash, Gowrie, Fadden, Richardson and Macarthur; and the Tuggeranong juniors retaining the more established areas west of Erindale Drive.

In 1985, Sutherland juniors changed its name to the Tuggeranong Bulldogs.

In 1994 the Tuggeranong Bulldogs Committee made the decision to move the home ground of the Bulldogs down to Conder, to a brand new oval, with toilets and canteen facilities and this ground is where the Bulldogs still call home today.

The Juniors determined to maintain the strong Bulldogs identity, continued to field teams from Under 7s through to Under 18s up until the year 2010 by which time the Club had amassed 33 premierships across all grades.

From 2011 the Tuggeranong Hawks took on the youth age groups and Bulldogs fielded teams from Rookies through to Under 12s. In 2017 the Bulldogs fielded their first girls team in the Under 10 Girls Only competition. In 2018 the Bulldogs returned to fielding an Under 13s team and also added an Under 12 Girls Only team to the Club. In 2019 the Bulldogs returned to fielding an Under 14s team and also added an Under 16 Girls Only team to the Club.

The Bulldogs aren’t without their talent too. A number of players that started out with the Tuggeranong Bulldogs have since gone on to play for the AFL. Aaron Hamill (Carlton/St Kilda), Justin Blumfield (Essendon/Richmond) were drafted in 1994 and Jason Tutt drafted in 2011 (Western Bulldogs/Carlton).

Over forty years of amazing history.
